Uncertainty in Medicine / by Harriet Hall, MD

An interesting proposal that followers of New Age solutions are unable to tolerate any ambiguities in life.

"Cranks and quacks lack humility in the face of disease; they demonstrate the arrogance of ignorance. They lure their victims with false promises of miracle cures for incurable diseases and less scary “natural” alternatives to surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, and drugs. They don’t know what they don’t know, and that makes them very dangerous."

Instead of seeking "the answer" we can become more illuminated by asking questions. It has always bugged me when people declare themselves "enlightened" in the Nuage sense, there seems to be a self-satisfied smugness associated with it that closes down rational discussion.
